Grenoble isn’t the capital of the French Alps for nothing! Surrounded by three mountain ranges (the Vercors, the Chartreuse, and the Belledonne), the city of Grenoble is the ideal location for a weekend getaway or a longer holiday.
The Vercors is one of the mountain ranges located southwest of the city. It’s known for its rugged terrain, which has made it a prime location for canyoning: deep gorges, vertical waterfalls, and fast-flowing rivers—there’s something for everyone!
Practice period
Canyoning is possible around Grenoble year-round. However, if you’re not a fan of winter canyoning, I recommend going between April and October, depending on the water levels and temperatures.
I provide all the necessary equipment (wetsuit and neoprene socks, harness, and helmet) so you can enjoy the Grenoble canyons safely.
The Vercors region has water year-round; unlike in the South, there are no dry riverbeds, so canyoning is possible without any problems!
What level is being offered?
Our canyons around Grenoble and in the Isère region are accessible to all levels:
- Initiation : iIdeal for families, children aged 7 and up, and people who have never done canyoning before. No experience is required, you just need to be in good shape and know how to swim.
- Sportif : Suitable for a first-time experience if you’re not afraid of water or heights. It’s the ideal outing for those who want a bit more of a challenge and to discover longer canyons. You need to be able to hike uphill and not be afraid of water or rappelling (up to 25 meters).
- Technique : for those who have already had an experience of canyoning or rappelling and who wish to discover the large canyons of the Vercors (rappels up to 80 meters).
